I have confirmed this issue...

its the marlin your using.

real marlin from [github.com] set to
#define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_MELZI
and
#define REPRAP_DISCOUNT_FULL_GRAPHIC_SMART_CONTROLLER

Compiles without issues for a 1284p... (runs out of space on a 644p)
